Thrillseekers will be able to exchange cans of food for an OGO ride for two days next month to help families in need as part of this year's Rotorua Daily Post Christmas appeal.

This year's Christmas Appeal, run in conjunction with the Rotorua Weekender and The Hits 97.5, is collecting non-perishable food and cash donations for the Salvation Army Foodbank.

OGO sales and marketing manager Anna Rodgers said its annual Locals Weekend was being held on December 9-10 from 9am to 5pm.

On those days customers can exchange two cans for a ride on the 250m Straight Track or five cans for a ride on the Side Winder. Both of these are H2OGO rides.

There will also be a sausage sizzle onsite.

"It will be a great family atmosphere and even if you're not riding you can spectate."

Rodgers said last year OGO had about 400 people each day and this volume of people would be a great help for the Salvation Army appeal.

She said the Salvation Army provided a great avenue to get resources to people who needed it.

This is the second year in a row OGO has taken part in the Christmas appeal.

OGO's birthday was in December- this year it was celebrating its seventh - and it tried to coincide the Locals Weekend with it, she said.
