The face of Rotorua darts is set to become a lot hairier with the local dart club getting behind Movember this month.

The Rotorua Dart Club has decided to get behind the hairy campaign, raising money and awareness for prostate cancer and mental health.

Millions worldwide take part in the event each year growing a moustache during the month of November.

Club president Paul Easton said it was a great cause to support.

"Ninety per cent of us at the club are men and I have had a few friends pass away because of men's health issues.

"This is a way for us to give back because we don't know when we will need help."

Easton said the dart club was established this year at the Arawa Park Racecourse and they had about 24 members taking part in Movember.

He said some of the ladies had also decided to give it a go.

He said to raise funds as a club they would donate entry money, raffle money, and bucket donations from their club nights each Thursday in November.

The club also host a dart competition on November 23, where they plan to raise money through donations and raffles.

Easton said he and club co-founder Sean Strickett came up with the idea during the last committee meeting.

"We told all our club members this is what we wanted to do and they gave us 100 per cent support."
