Element IMF Cadets have won the Baywide Cup for the third time since the competition was introduced a decade ago, in an encounter against New World Te Puke where the momentum changed several times, during the fifty-over per side game on Saturday.

Cadets won the toss and batted first on their home track at the Tauranga Domain. Opener Ruben Clinton was a rock at one end, as wickets fell at the other end and when Clinton fell for 35, the hosts were in some trouble at 77 for the loss of five wickets.

The Cadets' middle and lower order dug in, with Donavan Deeble, Jono Boult, Daniel Maathuis and Scott Steward all reaching the twenties, before the home side were bowled out for 203. Alex Gooding and Brody Gilroy were the best of the Te Puke bowling attack taking two wickets apiece.

Te Puke openers Stephen Crossan and Tai Bridgman-Raison got their team away to a solid start with the first wicket falling at the 41 run mark. While Bridgman-Raison went on to post his sides second highest score of 28, wickets were falling at the other end, with Te Puke in trouble at 6/52.

Batting at nine, Alex Gooding started an assault on the boundary and staged a comeback with Christian MacDonald.

Gooding went on to top score with 37 runs, before his side was removed for 127, to hand Cadets a 75 run victory. The Cadets' wickets were shared around with Scott Steward, Tim Pringle, Sean Davey and Donavan Deeble each taking two wickets.

Cadets will now go on to represent Bay of Plenty in the ND Club Championships in early 2018.

Eves Realty Greerton and Carrus Mount Maunganui had a high scoring contest, for third place in the Baywide competition, before Mount Maunganui sneaked home with a solitary wicket to spare.

Greerton posted a solid target after being bowled out for 236 in the last over of their innings. Tommy Clout top scored with 46, with Taylor Bettlehein who is still at secondary school, posting a handy 35 runs.

The visitors to Pemberton Park were in touch with the required rate throughout the match and squeezed a narrow victory, with one wicket in hand.

Daniel Radich was the best of the Mount batting attack with 41 runs to his name, while veteran Nick Smith reached 39 before dismissal.
