Five fire crews have spent more than three hours tackling a scrub fire on Wairākei Drive near Taupō.
A spokeswoman for Fire and Emergency New Zealand said calls were first made about 1.40pm yesterday to alert them to the blaze.
The spokeswoman said five appliances fought the blaze but helicopter assistance was not required.
This morning, a Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said the crews contained the fire to an area of about 40m by 30m.
