Rotorua Lakes Council is moving to resolve confusion around inner-city parking rules, after signs were recently changed.
The council said its staff had "made a start on implementing physical changes to support the new parking system coming into effect later next month".
This was because of the considerable amount of work needed, said Stavros Michael, the council's director Transport and Waste Solutions.
The 90-minute free parking is to be replaced early next year by 60-minute free parking, while meters will be reintroduced on some streets.
But work carried out already includes replacing the signage, removal of redundant meters, meter recalibration etc, in preparation for the January 25 implementation.
