"Each year through the Trustpower Rotorua Lakes Community Awards we are always blown away by the unwavering resolve of volunteers and by the diversity of what they do for the community. These awards are a great opportunity for the 'little guys' to be recognised for the hard work they do behind the scenes as they address the incredibly complex and increasingly urgent challenges they face," Ms Somerville said.
"These contributions can be anything from the behind the scenes work that often goes unnoticed to the more familiar fundraisers actioned by volunteers to the dedicated coach on the side line. All contribute to the community spirit within Rotorua, and help build a stronger and more resilient community.
"Now you have the chance to say 'thank you' to these volunteers who work hard to improve the community - just by filling out an entry form. It takes just a few minutes of your time to enter a group but it will make a real difference to the volunteers you are recognising," Miss Somerville said.
Anyone can enter a group or organisation for the Trustpower Rotorua Lakes Community Awards - voluntary groups and organisations can even enter themselves. But act now because entries close on Friday, April 24.
The awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Educational and Child/Youth Development. The category winners receive $750 and runners up take home $500. The Overall Winner receives $1500 and the opportunity to attend the 2015 National Community Awards. Last year's Supreme Winner was the Empowered learning Trust.
Entry Forms for the Trustpower Community Awards are available from the Council offices or service centre, they can be completed online at www.Trustpower.co.nz/communityawards, or you can call Community Relations on 0800 87 11 11.
