A medieval club has hosted its first Rotorua muster, with members hoping it will grow as more people research their European bloodlines.

Lakes Falcon Medieval club captain Deborah Campbell said around 22 people attended the meeting yesterday at Te Amorangi Museum.

Medieval club representatives from Tauranga and Taupo gave advice on medieval dancing, quarter staff training, clothing and equipment, she said.

"We thought more would have turned up but I think we could blame daylight saving and the unsettled weather," she said.

"I'm convinced with more publicity the club will prosper as more people look to research their ancestry and find out where they are from in Europe."

Medieval clubs, buoyed by the popularity of TV shows such as Game of Thrones, are catching on in centres around the country.

Ms Campbell said the Rotorua club would use the Rotorua Archery Club to improve their archery skills.

"We have people keen to make our period costumes, padded jackets and chain mail.

"As membership grows we hope to attend national tournaments and championships."

The club meets every Sunday at Te Amorangi Museum, from 1pm-4pm.
