"Everyone brings along a few items of good quality unwanted clothes and accessories. These are then displayed for everyone to see and then you get to try on and take whatever takes your fancy."
The event is being run by WorksWonders.
It's the first time a clothes swap had been held as a fundraiser locally, Mrs Macmillan said.
"They've held them in other areas like Wellington and they've been very successful."
The money will help support families in the Lakes district.
A workshop was also planned for earlier in the day for mums of children with cancer.
"We thought this was a fun way to finish off the day and to open up the event to the general public."
Anyone wanting more information on the clothes swap should go online and visit www.workswonders.co.nz or check out the Facebook event www.facebook.com/WorksWonders.
Entry is $10 and the clothes swap runs from 3pm at the Rotorua Commercial Travellers' Club in Moncur Drive.
