Rotorua's hop-on, hop-off tourist bus will be up and running for the Rugby World Cup.
The GreatSights New Zealand division of the Intercity Group has announced it will launch Rotorua CitySights bus in early September.
General coaching manager Sam Peate said the "hoho" buses - short for hop-on, hop-off - had proved successful in other major tourist cities.
"Rotorua has a number of really exciting attractions spread across the city and, with the Rugby World Cup this year, we feel the time is right to launch this new service."
Mr Peate said the service would help connect experiences and reinforce Rotorua's position as an international destination.
Destination Rotorua Tourism Marketing has been working with Intercity and Destination Rotorua Economic Development for several months to get the service off the ground. Outgoing general manager Don Gunn said it was great the service would be operating in time for the influx of visitors expected for the Rugby World Cup during September and October.
"The hoho concept is one many of Rotorua's 800,000+ annual international visitors will be very familiar with, and, indeed, expect in a city like Rotorua."
CitySights drivers will deliver a commentary in English around the 34km, 95-minute circuit, aiming to bring the culture and history of Rotorua to life, with free disposable earphones to cater for Japanese, Mandarin and Spanish speakers.
Rotorua Mayor Kevin Winters said he expected the concept would be as successful in Rotorua as it had been elsewhere.
"Rotorua has some wonderful, unique attractions and it's a fantastic idea to make them more accessible to visitors in this way. It will certainly add another dimension to the Rotorua experience for many thousands of international visitors."
The bus service will leave from the Rotorua i-Site visitor information centre every two hours, from 8.30am and to 2.30pm. Tickets cost $30 for adults and $15 for children, allowing unlimited use of the service for 48 hours. They will be available from the i-Site, hotels, motels and various attractions as well as via the CitySights website - www.citysights.co.nz - and through travel agents globally..
