The NZ Transport Agency is encouraging people who are heading away for the long weekend to plan their travel for a safe and enjoyable trip.
Transport system manager Karen Boyt said this was the last long weekend for a few months.
"Many people take the opportunity to head away for a break, or to visit friends and family."
Based on previous years' travel patterns, The NZ Transport Agency has maps and graphs showing the busiest times on state highway routes.
It is predicting the heaviest time for Bay of Plenty traffic will be eastbound on State Highway 29 Kaimai Range between 3pm and 5.30pm on Friday and 11am and 12.30pm Saturday.
