A car has hit a power pole on State Highway 30 at Horohoro.
Senior Sergeant Steven Shaw said the road was currently blocked and emergency services were at the scene.
There had only been minor injuries, he said.
Rotorua Daily Post photographer Stephen Parker said the power pole was broken about halfway up with the power lines hanging low over the road - "too low for a truck to get under".
