Peter Kim is going without for the third year on end to help those in need in the Live Below the Line challenge - but this time he is organised.
"Last year I didn't plan ahead and I bought salami, but this year's been organised. I have bread, luncheon and potato - more carb-based food," he said.
This week, he will live on $2.25 a day for five days as part of the challenge, which raises money and awareness for the 1.2 billion people worldwide who survive on less than $2.25 a day.
The Rotorua-based dentist and former Rotorua Boys' High School head boy said he felt fine one day into the challenge, which began on Monday, but with two years of experience he knows the last three days are a real struggle.
"I'm surprisingly feeling quite good. Working long hours is helpful; it keeps my mind off the hunger pains. It's all about portioning and planning ahead."
