An English couple holidaying in Rotorua have had their belongings stolen by a thief who broke into their motel room while they were asleep.
Greg Matheson and Misty Buckly were staying at a Fenton St motel last week and woke up to find their laptop, cellphone, iPod, and cash stolen.
Mr Matheson said the couple were sleeping in the bedroom, while the thief went through their belongings, which were in another room.
"Misty is really shaken," he said.
"The computer does have a password on it and we have given the serial numbers of the phone and laptop to the police."
He said the thief gained access to the room by forcing the motel unit window open.
He said the items taken wouldn't be much use to the thief.
"The laptop is password protected and the mobile phone will only work with a UK Sim card even if it is unlocked."
The couple are offering a $1000 reward for the recovery of the computer, phone and iPod.
Police urge anyone with information to contact them on (07) 348-0099 or 0800 TIPOFF.
