Four fingers amputated
A forestry worker had four fingers amputated after his hand got trapped between a log and a wire. The Hamilton-based Westpac Waikato Air Ambulance was called to Opotiki to fly the 30-year-old to Waikato Hospital.
Hunter's body found
The police national dive squad yesterday found the body of missing Ohaupo pig hunter Kevin Hayward on the bed of Lake Waipapa on the Waikato River.
'Rude fruit' auctioned
A "rude fruit" auctioned on Trade Me has raised $15 for the Taupo Parents Centre. Centre member Holly Lamb put a kiwifruit, described as a "woman's anatomy kiwifruit" on to the auction site last week, pledging to donate the proceeds. The kiwifruit was donated to Taupo Foodbank.
Musical workshop
Renowned music educator and performer Jane Keller will be in Rotorua later this month to present a Music Theatre Song Performance Workshop, at the Lake Okareka Community Hall. There are workshops on Saturday from 1pm to 5pm and another on Sunday from 10am to 2pm. Cost is $25 for Newzats members, $35 for non-members and singing students $10. Includes refreshments.
