A 10-year-old boy was seriously hurt when he dived into a swimming pool and hit the bottom.
A statement from the staff at the Rotorua based BayTrust Rescue helicopter said it was dispatched to Opotiki about 5pm where the boy had suffered a serious neck injury.
The boy was treated at the scene by St John paramedics and Fire Service staff secured a landing area on the road outside the house.
The helicopter was called to the scene due to the nature of the injury and the distance to the required hospital for further treatment.
