The body of a 55-year-old man found in a building on Tryon St on December 7 has been laid to rest.
The body was discovered after residents of the nearby Whakarewarewa Village noticed a smell coming from the disused backpackers.
Rotorua police confirmed the man's family had been notified and the body had been collected.
Detective Sergeant John Wilson said the man was now buried.
It is understood a tangi was held on a local marae but police will not be releasing the man's name.
