A series of trails in the Whakarewarewa Forest are receiving plenty of traffic since opening to mountain bikers.
The Challenge mountain bike trail reopened at the start of the month and is one of four tracks in the block of southern pine which have been restored following extensive logging over the past two summers.
Rotorua Mountain Bike Club trail development and maintenance co-ordinator Rob Smail said all four tracks were popular.
"It's unbelievably popular, in the school holidays riders were literally queuing to ride those tracks."
He said they had been restoring the tracks and reopening them during the past 18 months and it was good to see the most recent track, the Challenge trail, completed.
