A bid to extend Crankworx Rotorua is looking promising, according to local organisers.
The Crankworx World Tour is the largest mountain biking event in the world, with events in Canada and France.
The inaugural Rotorua leg was held at Skyline in March, attracting thousands of spectators over four days, with further events confirmed for 2016 and 2017.
Crankworx Rotorua organisers Tak Mutu and Ariki Tibble recently visited Whistler, Canada, the birthplace of the event, to try to extend the three-year contract to 10 years and drum up further sponsorship, Mr Mutu said.
"We managed to meet with the president of Crankworx and they're very keen to establish a long-term relationship. The success this year blew them away. What we are going to do now is essentially put down on paper how we think it might work."
