State Highway 35 near Hawai has reopened in the Bay of Plenty following a crash involving two vehicles.
It is the third serious crash to close a Bay of Plenty road in less than 24 hours.
In a written statement a police spokesperson said the crash was reported shortly before 2.30pm and the initial indications were that there had been injuries.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency said in an update around 7.30pm that the road had reopened.
A St John Hato Hone spokesman confirmed a female patient in a serious condition was flown to Waikato Hospital by a rescue helicopter, while another person, who sustained moderate injuries, was taken to Whakatāne Hospital by St John ambulance.
