Say hello to one of New Zealand basketball's most promising young players.
Rotorua Boys' High Year 12 student Logan Elers is on a roll after being named in the Junior Tall Blacks squad preparing to travel to Suva in December.
He also beat out Kahurangi Robinson of Western Heights HighSchool at the Holiday Inn Hotel at Whakarewarewa to be named the 2014 Te Arawa Junior Sportsman of the Year.
The humble 17-year-old has his sights set on being on the plane to Fiji when the Tall Blacks squad is pared back.
In a busy 12 months, he has travelled on the NZ U18 Development team (Koru Tour), played in the final trial/Breakers Summer Camp for the U18 Men's Basketball Team and at the Australian U18 State Championship in April.
The 2013 Breakers Summer camp was thrown in for good measure, as were two to three 6.30am gym seasons with personal trainer Dan Beazley and an academic vigour that allowed him to receive his academic blazer for excellence in NCEA level 1.
As well, he started working at Number Works as a maths tutor.
He hopes to represent his country at the U19 World Basketball Championship in Crete next year.
