One pyjama culprit has told The Daily Post she recently ran into the New World supermarket to help her partner choose some meat because it was easier than explaining it to him. Another said she always drove her kids to school in her dressing gown while others do it because they can't be bothered getting changed, they are hungover and pyjamas are comfortable.
A Pak 'n Save staff member said she was noticing more people wearing pyjamas while shopping.
"It's weird, but I see it quite often," the staff member said.
"I see this type of thing all the time. They look comfortable and the people wearing them have no shame," she said.
But Rotorua's Leteesha George - a model and retail assistant - said the PJ trend was an embarrassment.
"I would not wear them to town. They are not a fashion statement and it really is an embarrassment,"
She said there was no excuse for wearing PJs no matter how comfortable they were. She said there were plenty of other options to wear instead of pyjamas which were affordable, comfortable and looked better.
"You can wear a nice track suit. Also leggings with a basic top and cardigan," Miss George said.
The pyjamas' topic has raised a lot of debate on The Daily Post Facebook page with comments both for and against wearing the bedwear around Rotorua at all times of the day.
Some of the comments include: "All the people saying there's nothing wrong, that's messed up. How lazy can someone be?! If you can't even be bothered getting changed in the morning I'd hate to know what your houses look like. Best advice for you lot, get a job! "Theres nothing wrong with wearing your PJz in public. I do it cos I find it comfortable. Start moaning when you see someone walking around in their underwear LOL".
