Western Heights High School has donated $250 to the Daily Post Christmas appeal by holding a quiz night for staff and their partners.
The Life Education Trust will benefit from the appeal this year with the money going towards a much-needed new mobile classroom which will cost about $120,000.
Western Heights is now in the running to win 500 sausages, donated by Mad Butcher branch owners Ian Pound and Todd Hughes of the respective Fenton St and Te Ngae Rd stores. They're giving the sausages to the school that raises the most money for the appeal.
Deputy principal Peter Kaua said about 60 people took part in the quiz night with the team "Brazil", including teachers Joe Barnes and Sarah Briscoe, taking top prize.
Life Education was an obvious charity to support for Western Heights High School because most of the students had been through the mobile classroom when they attended primary school, Mr Kaua said.
"It's a local cause and it's all about the kids. You feel good when you're helping out, it's a really good thing to get behind."
The school always supports the annual Daily Post Christmas appeal through various fundraising activities and events.
Mr Kaua said he would encourage other schools and businesses to help raise money for the appeal.
Locals can show their support for the Life Education Trust appeal this weekend by giving a gold coin donation for a sausage sizzle in the central city, courtesy of the two Mad Butcher stores.
