Kenny Rogers
21 Number Ones
4 stars
Until you listen to this compilation you probably won't realise just how many Kenny Rogers songs you know.
Some of the old favourites are here - The Gambler, Coward of the County, Through The Years, Islands in the Stream - stuff that'll have you crooning along in no time.
But it's the other duets that really stand out.
We've Got Tonight with Sheena Easton (of Morning Train fame) and Don't Fall in Love With a Dreamer, with Kim Carnes, show why Kenny was the love song king of his heyday.
Despite the album's name, a bonus track means there are 22 songs on this album.
The fact they're all United States No1s means there are a few omissions from the Rogers canon. That's where the concept falls down.
It would be nice to hear Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town and What About Me with Kim Carnes and James Ingram.
But the guy put out 80 singles and 32 studio albums and there's no way to please everyone without a box set.
An enjoyable listen.
