Fraser Tech 42 - Melville 7
Fraser Tech made it ten wins in a row at the weekend with a comfortable 42-7 win over Melville at Elliot Park.
The hosts had too much pace and power for Melville and scored seven tries to one which ensured they kept their four point lead at the top of the table.
Tech were quickly into their work scoring three tries in the first quarter, to backs Brett O'Connor, Glen Robertson and Sam Christie, with Christie also adding a conversion and a penalty as the home side shot out to a 20-0 lead.
Melville then tightened up their defence and enjoyed their best period of the game in the second quarter, and were unlucky not to get on the scoreboard after a couple of attacking raids deep into Tech territory.
With no change to the score at halftime Melville still had a chance to work their way back into the match and came out firing after the break, making some big hits on defence and disrupting Tech's plans to play a quick and expansive game.
But as the half wore on the visitors began to tire and slip off tackles, and Tech took full advantage.
The blue and whites added their bonus point try in the 56th minute, to hard working prop Richard Johnston, and then scored two more tries in the next 10 minutes through flanker Joe Scheres and replacement back Shaun O'Connor to stretch the score out to 37-0.
Melville did get a consolation try for their efforts 10 minutes from fulltime when replacement prop Villiami Tu'ungafasi crashed over.
But Tech were not finished and closed out the match strongly adding another try to replacement forward Soni Qiqiwaqa and going close on another couple of occasions.
Front rowers Johnston and Jamie Vette were key figures for Tech, as was loose forward Scheres, while Melville's halfback Matt Hogg stood out in a losing team.

But Old Boys were able to keep the home side scoreless in the second half, while piling on another four tries, to streak away to another bonus point win.Hamilton Marist 50 - Hinuera 0
Hamilton Marist took the chance against bottom-of-the-table Hinuera to get back to winning form at Marist Park.

Hinuera, to their credit, never gave up the fight and enjoyed good spells throughout the match but could not convert them into points.
Otorohanga 48 - Hautapu 25
An impressive seven try performance by Otorohanga against Hautapu earned them another five competition points at Island Reserve.
The hosts dominated for most of the match, building on their great form of recent weeks, proving to have too much pace and power for the visitors.
Hautapu played their part in a match where over 70 points were scored, scoring three tries, but in the end could not stop the onslaught of the Otorohanga attack.
Te Awamutu Sports 38 - University 12
After a tight first half, Te Awamutu Sports pulled away for a bonus point over University at Albert Park.
Up just 7-5 at halftime, Te Awamutu finished the match off in style, scoring six tries in total, with former Waikato captain and current Te Awamutu co-coach Deon Muir a notable name on the scoresheet.
University fought hard for most of the match and were right in it until the last 20 minutes but were unable to add to their two tries, from Tim Mikkelson and Whetu Douglas, to keep up with the hosts.
