On Wednesday, January 25, Scottish enthusiasts from all over the Waikato will gather for a Burns Supper at the Riv Bar and Bistro to celebrate the life and works of world renowned Scottish poet and lyricist, Robbie Burns.
Many such celebrations will be taking place across the world, as Scotland remembers her "favourite son" on the anniversary of his birth (January 25, 1759).
Event organiser, and owner of Celtic Connexions Ltd, Bob Wallace encourages anyone aged over 18, with an interest in Scottish culture, to come along. "This is an opportunity to extend knowledge of the man behind Auld Lang Syne; many New Zealanders know his songs and poems, but have never heard of the man himself," he says.
The Burns Supper will kick off at 7pm with live music, followed by Burns readings, and a meal of haggis, neeps and tatties. Each ticket-holder will be entitled to two free drams of whisky.
For ticket enquiries, please phone Bob on 0800 HAGGIS, or email bob@celt.co.nz to order tickets. Tickets are $17 each. Due to the presence of alcohol, this event is only suitable for adults aged 18 years and over. The event is being made possible with the support of Creative Hamilton.
