The section of the Waikato Expressway that was closed in both directions after a truck fire late this afternoon has now reopened.

It happened just before the Taupiri off-ramp, with the north and southbound lanes closed.

A police spokesperson said it received reports of the fire at about 4.50pm.

The closure was lifted about an hour later.
