Ultrafast fibre to break 105km by end of month

Local fibre company, Ultrafast Fibre Ltd, plans to install 105kms of fibre in Hamilton by February 28.

So far, 90kms of its network has been completed. 15.8kms of fibre will be added to Ultrafast Fibre's Hamilton network this month at an average speed of 793 metres per day.

The fibre network, being built by Ultrafast Fibre in Hamilton, is part of a new, coast-to-coast, 3000km fibre network that will enable organisations and individuals throughout the central North Island to connect to a new generation of ultrafast broadband.

Construction of the Ultrafast Fibre network began in 2011 and will be completed in 2016.

Ultrafast Fibre is on track to complete the fastest network build of any local fibre company in New Zealand.

"Hamilton organisations and residents will be among the first in the country to connect to ultrafast broadband at speeds that rival the best in the world.

"From April 1, 1400 business premises can connect to the Ultrafast Fibre network through their preferred retail service provider. Additionally, 4450 residential premises will be able to connect to our network from 1 July," says company CEO, Maxine Elliott.

During February and March, most of Ultrafast Fibre's work will take place in the CBD as well as Te Rapa, primarily in the Clarkin and Beerscourt suburbs.

In April and May, the company will continue work in the CBD and Te Rapa, moving into the suburb of Bryant.

It will also begin laying fibre in Claudelands and Swarbrick.

During June and July, it

will begin laying fibre in Frankton.
