Fluoridation will be retained in the water supply in Thames, in a decision being supported by medical professionals.
Waikato District Health Board presented submissions in favour of the move, drawing on scientific evidence that it has health benefits for teeth.
Medical Officer of Health, Doctor Felicity Dumble, says the decision is very encouraging, and shows their submissions about the safe and effective use of fluoridation were listened to.
She hopes the Hamilton City Council follows suit.
The council will host a tribunal on the matter in May.
