The photograph that Kate entered in the family category captured the simplicity of a family celebrating a newborn joining their home setting.
In this particular photograph Kate says what spoke to her was the family dynamic.
"It shows the importance of the different family roles, like the dad taking time to connect with the older daughter who is 3 and the hand of the mother settling the new baby after a feed," says Kate.
"It is super representative of a family, so it was cool that it spoke to the judges too."
The second photo that won a bronze merit in the teenage category had more of a creative and staged process, says Kate.
Working alongside Shannon Dowd from Zibido and Sian Moore from Velvetine Makeup and Hair, the image portrays a teenage girl wearing a black laced dress.
Additionally, this photo has been entered for hairstyling competitions.
"So, we came up with a concept where it was focused on the hair. I went a little further than I normally do," says Kate.
"I did more on the editing side; I slightly enlarged her eyes and highlighted the hair to give it a beautiful but unsettling feeling."
Kate says it was fun to explore the creative side of photography by playing around with lighting and editing.
"For this one we wanted to portray something otherworldly and a bit creepy and dark," says Kate.
Kate acknowledges the people and families who were a part of her success including the Gordon family, Shannon Dowd, Sian Moore and Abby Christian.
