Verdettes Marist Old Girls had a comfortable win over the newly promoted FTNC Premier Reserve team. Verdettes Marist Old Girls won the first, second and final quarters but the young and energetic team can take some credit in winning the third quarter. Half time score was 32 goals to 17 and the final score was 60 goals to 33.
For Marist Old Girls they are pleased with their fitness but changes at half time by both teams saw them having some initial trouble connecting and adjusting. Tennille McDonald at centre most of the game was a standout with some deceptive passes into the shooters. Hayley Stockman at goal shoot showed great movement and shot at a high percentage.
The team also welcomed their friend and fellow mum Casey Kopua back who gave the team a huge boost defensively playing at goal defence and goal keep.
For FTNC Premier Reserve although up against a very experienced Marist Verdettes Old Girls the young players again showed grit and determination with solid defence, strong mid court play and some real belief in the shooting circle; all be it up against Kopua in defence. There were many positives to be taken from this game with all players being able to take the court and overall a great opportunity for their development.
Uni Premier again had a comprehensive win against New World Rototuna Suburbs Premier Reserve. In this game they again lead from start to finish winning every quarter.
The half time score was 42 goals to 14 and the fulltime score 80 goals to 28. Uni Premier with a full complement of players played their usual fast and energetic game with all players taking the court allowing for different combinations.
They were also ruthless in their execution of the game. For the young Suburbs Premier Reserve players this competition has seen them grow in confidence and they played well up against the class act that is Uni Premier. Taylor Greening played in four different positions (WD, C, WA and GD) showing depth, skill and adaptability.
Tauser Ashley continues to grow as a goal shooter and she combined well with Anahia Noble at goal attack where they took advantage of the opportunities presented to them.
