A recent mystery cash donation to St John in Hamilton is not the largest ever received - but it is creating a lot of interest.
The unique gift of a cardboard cutout ambulance with cash stuck all over it was left one night at the Chartwell St John station and discovered by ambulance officers arriving for duty on a recent Saturday morning.
Jeanette Horan, fundraising and marketing manager for the St John Central Region, says the organisation is humbled by the anonymous gesture.
"At least we believe it was anonymous," she says. " There's no name on it, there was no note, no card, although we do wonder if there was one and it may have blown away."
She says St John would love to know the story behind it as whoever created it has put in a lot of effort, drawing the ambulance, cutting it out and sticking on the cash.
