There is reportedly a house fire in Plateau Dr in Fitzroy.

A person has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after suffering burns in a house fire this evening.

Emergency services were called to a property on Plateau Drive, in Fitzroy, about 6.45pm.

Northern fire communications shift manager Jaron Philips said they received reports of the blaze about 6.45pm.

The house was well-involved when crews arrived, he said.

"There were initial fears there maybe occupants in the house but all have been accounted for.''

The Fire Service said a female patient had been taken to hospital. The patient's age has not been released.

St John confirmed one person had been taken to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition.

Philips said five fire trucks were at the scene.
