A police chase involving a female motorcyclist ended with the rider's motorcycle crashing into a Te Awamutu motorcycle shop last night.

Residents reported hearing a high-speed chase involving multiple police vehicles through Ōhaupō and Te Awamutu at about 10.40pm.

The rider had reportedly led police from Hamilton, along State Highway 3, to Te Awamutu.

The pursuit ended when the rider came off her Yamaha motorcycle on the corner of Sloane Street and Kihikihi Road.

The motorcycle crashed into Wilks Penny Motorcycles, hitting four stationary motorcycles which had been stored inside overnight.

The damaged shop motorcycles included two Suzukis and two Kawasakis.

The woman allegedly fled on foot at Fraser St, but was stopped by police.

"She was in the ambulance by the time I arrived," said shop owner Mark Penny.
