A man has been charged with murder after the death of a 48-year-old man in the Waikato.

Police found the dead man's body after being called to a serious assault at a house in Tokoroa at 2pm on Thursday.

"A 29-year-old man has been charged with murder and is due to appear in Rotorua District Court tomorrow [Friday]," police said.

A scene guard was in place at the house overnight.
