Hamilton City Council closed several of Hamilton low-lying paths to the public on Monday following a rise in the level of the Waikato River.
The council said the Waikato River catchment experienced significant rainfall over the weekend, and paths and parks beside the river are closed either due to the risk of flooding, or water inundation.
The affected areas are: Matakanohi Reserve; Pine Beach; Fairfield Esplanade; Te Hikuwai Reserve; London St boardwalk (maintenance project).
The council said in a statement the Grantham St car park was being monitored and may be closed if the river level rose further.
The section between London St and Bryce St also remained closed due to concerns over slope stability, the council said.
