Ways to extend the family home inexpensively while adding warm, comfortable and dry accommodation will be showcased at the Autumn HomeXPO this weekend in Hamilton.

Exhibition director Rebecca Hannah says this year's Collection of Dwellings will broaden horizons with demonstrations of multiple alternative options for short or longer-term accommodation.

The Collection of Dwellings showcase includes living options such as sleep outs, caravans and tents.

"The exhibitors will show how these options can deliver suitable accommodation which is warm, dry and aesthetically appealing, while also being within the reach of more households," Ms Hannah said.

She said housing affordability was a major issue with a growing population and the high costs of new homes.

The show has consistently expanded since inception and this year offers more than 70 exhibitors spanning everything from construction materials, to decorative finishings, appliances, heating and ventilation solution, spa pools, fire places and much more.
