Fresh from their successful trip to Scotland for the 2019 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the world famous New Zealand Army Band will perform in Hamilton on December 1.

The concert is in the Southwell School Performing Arts Auditorium at 6:30pm on Sunday December 1.

"This is the first time in many years the Army Band have performed an evening concert in Hamilton and we are really looking forward to entertaining the wonderful people of that city," said New Zealand Army Band bandmaster Staff Sergeant David Fiu.

"The band is no stranger to the Waikato, performing at schools, Field Days and FMG Stadium Waikato in recent years, but it will be great to show off a more formal side of the band in an evening concert setting."

The NZAB's programme will draw from a range of musical styles including classical, big band, brass band, show music and rock showcasing the variety of talent within the ensemble.

Along with 30 instrumentalists, the NZAB also boasts several fine vocalists and world class brass soloists who will be featured throughout the evening.

The band will also feature Mason Elliot and Emma Redpath from Hamilton City Brass who will perform a duet with the band.

Mason and Emma are both well known in Hamilton and have represented the region in National and National Youth Brass Bands respectively.

"Showcasing local talent is something we like to do when we perform an evening concert in a community that has a thriving brass band scene like Hamilton."

"It is a thrill for the band, Mason and Emma to be able to collaborate in this way," The NZAB's director of music Major Graham Hickman said.

"We are also pleased to be able to support Hamilton City Brass by donating 50 per cent of the profits from this concert to them.

"There has been a real resurgence in brass banding in Hamilton in the last few years with Hamilton City Brass successfully re-entering the A Grade Brass Band ranks and we are pleased to be able to help in any small way."
