Hamilton Wanderers secured their second win of the season against Glenfield Rovers at Hamilton's Porritt Stadium on Saturday.

The team has won two out of the four games they have played so far this season, and sit on seven points in the standings as they fight to keep up with the early title contenders East Coast Bays.

Wanderers started brightly and were a goal up within the first 10 minutes as Steffano Riley scored a long range effort from just outside the box.

Glenfield were rattled by the early goal, and struggled to keep hold of the ball in the first half.

The second half was a story of near misses for both teams as Glenfield had chances to level the game, but failed to find an equaliser.

Glenfield coach Carl Jorgensen was sent to the stands late in the second half for continued abuse towards the refereeing officials.

The icing on the cake for Wanderers came in the last minutes as 17-year-old Will Stephen with his first touch of the ball scored an early goal of the season contender.

Up north in Auckland Melville United returned to winning ways in division one with a 6-2 win against Manurewa AFC.

Claudelands Rovers suffered a 3-1 defeat to division two leaders Takapuna.

On Sunday Hamilton Wanderers women's team picked up a important home win against last season's champions Three Kings United in Hamilton.

Three Kings took an early lead through Ayla Pratt, but in the last 10 minutes Briana Rose and new signing Kelli Brown scored to secure a stunning win for the home side.

Claudelands Rovers suffered defeat to Forrest Hill in a close encounter.

Forrest took the lead early on but Claudelands' striker Leanna Ryan scored an equaliser soon after.

Ryan was then forced off with an injury in the first half after colliding with the opposition goalkeeper.

Forrest then took the lead again before Summer Gunn scored for Claudelands which pulled the game back to two all.

However, in the last minutes of the game Forrest scored the winner which gave Claudelands their second defeat of the season.
