The death of a 7-month-old Hamilton girl is no longer being treated as suspicious, police say.

Hinepukohurangi Emery-Kohunui was taken to Waikato Hospital yesterday with what police described as critical and unexplained injuries.

However, police today said that following a post-mortem examination the death was no longer unexplained and there were no suspicious circumstances.

A scene examination and wider enquiries had also taken place following the death, police said.

"Police again extend their sincere condolences to the family and thank them for their ongoing co-operation," police said in a statement.
