Hamilton's Limelight Dance Academy students have the chance to perform at prestigious Alana Haines Australasian Awards at the Wellington Opera house over Easter weekend, from April 2-5.
The dancers aged 11-15 will showcase a classical ballet variation and repertoire to compete against other young dancers from around New Zealand and Australia. Jenna Elliot, Analita Singleton and Xanthe Wainui-Mackle will be performing in the juniors category, with Emma-Rose Gibney performing in the supreme category.
Waikato dancers Paige Cockerton from Valerie School of Dance, and Aidan Tully and Kimberly Mear from The Hauraki Ballet Theatre will also be performing at the event. The Alana Haines Trust was set up in 1990 by Greg and Katie Haines, both former dancers with the New Zealand Ballet Company in memory of their 11 year old daughter Alana, who was a very promising young dancer.
The Alana Haines trust is a charitable organisation and is run by volunteers.
It has been providing an International dance forum and financial assistance to talented young dancers from 11 - 21 which then gives them a platform in the future. Giving winning students a chance to further their dance dreams financially or even a company contract within Australasia or abroad.
