Free monthly art classes for under-5s are being held at Agora Cafe in Frankton.
Run by Emma Gregory, a graphic designer, artist and a mum, the classes allow young children to explore natural materials and give them the opportunity to manipulate materials and, if they wish, create their own special pieces of art.
When Hamilton News caught up with the group, several children were enjoying moulding clay into shapes, others were making patterns in it with pepples and loofah, and others were pressing stones and pegs into it to create faces.
"Art is a really important part of how young children communicate and a really important part of early childhood education," said Emma.
"It aids their development and helps them express themselves."
