Cambridge Volunteer Fire Brigade chief fire officer Don Gerrand is honoured for 50 years of service.

On Saturday night Don Gerrand received a gold medal from the United Fire Brigade Association to commend his 50 years of service.

The annual House of the Year competition showcases the best in residential buildings and exceptional workmanship on projects across New Zealand. There are seven regional competitions, held throughout July and August, of which the winners feature in the Top 100 list before undergoing a second round of judging. In total, the seven regional competitions drew in close to 300 entries this year.

Wild Kaimanawa horses are rounded up on the Central Plateau and sent off to become domestic horses. The horses disturb unique native flora and fauna if the population gets too large so must be thinned out each year.

Boon Street Art Festival brightened up Hamilton East and the CBD on the weekend. Seven artists brought love and colour to blank walls across the city, most of the walls were located near the newly opened Made Market precinct. The artists painting the town not only red were Jesse Mosen, Cinzah, Gary Venn, Kell Sunshine, Haser and Alice Alva and Koryu. The Waikato Herald went along and captured some of the action.

The friendly game saw the NZ Barbarians Area Schools win 34-7. Te Awamutu College scored their points through an impressive Corbin Fleming try and a Thomas Frandi conversion.

Classic motorbike buffs farewell Pukekohe

The New Zealand Classic Motorcycle Racing Register (NZCMRR) farewelled "Puke" last weekend at their 43rd Classic Festival. The whole New Zealand motorsport community is sad to see this piece of its history go and while Supercars said their goodbyes last year, it was now time for the classic motorbike community. Despite the circumstances, every racer and every spectator was in great spirits. The Waikato Herald went along and captured the vibe.

APS Classic Motorcycle Racing Festival

Feilding was roaring on the weekend when over 1000 motorbikes - including racing and road bikes - descended on Manfeild Circuit Chris Amon for the APS Classic Motorcycle Racing Festival. It was the first time, the festival was held there, after Pukekohe Park Raceway, the festival's home of 43 years, closed to motorsport events last year.
