A glamorous night of Broadway hits in Hamilton

Hamilton's Clarence Street Theatre celebrates becoming a community-owned asset with the show Broadway Hitmen running through to Sunday night after opening night on Thursday.

Tickets are still available for the show, which features the much-loved hits of Cole Porter and Andrew Lloyd Webber

The first act has music from shows such as Kiss Me Kate, Can Can, Jubilee, Gay Divorce and closes with the famous tap dance number from Anything Goes.

The second act, music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, opens with Phantom of the Opera, CATS, Sunset Boulevard, Pie Jesu, and closes with Jesus Christ Superstar.

The show stars 35 local and national performers, supported by a 30-piece orchestra specifically gathered for the event.

The general manager of the theatre, Jason Wade, had no doubt that such a hit-filled show would be perfect to mark such a special occasion.

"I had seen Showbiz Christchurch's production of Broadway Hitmen at the Isaac Theatre. It was a glamorous, fun and wonderful night of entertainment for all ages."

"The cast brings well-known numbers to life giving them meaning and hope and honest representation of the song's intention," director Kyle Chuen says.

"I am so excited to work with such a talented group of musicians and performers," musical director, Victoria Trenwith says.

After years of hard work, Clarence Street Theatre Trust won approval to operate the theatre for the community, gaining confirmation last month that it had met all the requirements set by Hamilton City Council to activate a deed of gift.

"Broadway Hitmen will celebrate the success of the trust and all those who have supported the theatre over the past three years. We have established a sustainable model, and the world is our oyster," says Paul Mitchell, chairperson of the Clarence Street Theatre Trust.

Broadway Hitmen runs for two hours including interval. Tickets start at $31.40 for children. Bookings at Ticketek.
