He said the choir festival will now be a regular feature of future shows but will be a co-operative event rather than a competitive event.
"Choirs have a free choice of the songs they sing ... traditional to modern, classical to jazz, folk to pop," he said.
Community choirs Te Roopu O Kihi (IDEA), Mosaic Waikato Modern Choir and the Waikato Rivertones will showcase well-loved repertoires.
Not to be outdone are the Te Aroha Community Choir, Male Voices Waikato, the Mighty River Harmony and the Ohinemuri Singers.
Two of the groups, the Rivertones and the Mighty River Harmony, have found success nationally and internationally.
The other groups are mainstays in other local venues and churches.
It is hoped the choir festival will become a venue where talent gets to be recognised and excellent community singing becomes a tradition.
Mr Dixon said he also hoped that it will encourage more people to join choral groups.
"Newcomers are usually hesitant about joining but once the initial nerves are settled and they know that they don't have to be brilliant individual singers then they really enjoy it," he said.
The Choral Festival will be on October 28, from 1.30pm to 4pm at the Claudelands Arena, is set to be a regular feature of future A&P shows.
The $15 ticket price includes admission to the A&P Show.
The show is October 26 to 28.
