As my neighbours will freely attest, I like my music loud. When Doctor John's new album hit my speakers it was like a monster kick in the solar plexus - dense, gritty and loud.
Mac Rebennack, 71, aka Dr John, has been bringing his New Orleans-based music to us since the 1950s, starting out as a street musician alongside his hero, Professor Longhair.
There's always been something dark and mystical about Dr John. Locked Down is produced by the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach. It's a magic combination. Funky doesn't go halfway towards describing the thump of the bass and drums, overlaid with keyboards, ripping guitar and the other-worldly background vocals of The McCrary Sisters.
Locked Down is not for the faint-hearted, but I promise your neighbours will appreciate it as much as you will
