Album review: Destiny's child Love songs

I've been a fan of Destiny's Child ever since I got my first earful of their music with No, No, No, Illusion and With Me.

I've seen them in concert and followed them through their line-up changes over the years.

They're my favourite band and I probably have just about every album they've released.

So, I jumped at the chance to get my hands on their latest offering - a selection of slow jams collected from at least six different Destiny's Child albums, titled Love Songs. Some of my favourite songs and slow jams are on this album, including Brown Eyes, If You Leave, featuring Next, Temptation, Cater To You and T-Shirt.

I could put these tracks on repeat for most of the day and be quite happy to hear them over and over.

Even though I've neglected a few of them for quite some years, as soon as I played this album I was miming the lyrics.

I had nostalgic flashbacks of singing along as a teenager, pretending I was in the music video.

The only part of the album I didn't connect with was its title.

To me, love songs are ones you could play at a wedding - ones that sweetly declare the love you have for someone.

Some of the tracks on here probably wouldn't be appropriate to play at a wedding, with themes of lust, temptation and potential infidelity fairly prominent.

Overall though, I can't really fault this album.

It's nice to have been reintroduced to some of the songs I've always loved.
