A Chinese developer trying to cut a deal with the Queensland government has fuelled speculation a new Disneyland might wash up on the Gold Coast.
The Gold Coast Bulletin reported Wang Jianlin's Chinese conglomerate, the Wanda Group, was negotiating with the state Government to get land at Coomera to build a "multi-billion-dollar" theme park.
"Mr Xie declined to say whether the park would have a Disney theme but the household name is aggressively pushing into China where more than 59 luxury theme parks have been proposed," the Bulletin reported.
The Gold Coast, already home to several major them parks, was a popular holiday and emigration destination for New Zealanders.
The developer told the Bulletin the Gold Coast was his company's top priority in Australia.
