A woman camper has died in hospital after she and a companion were run by a ute over while sleeping in swags at a campsite in central western New South Wales.
The man and woman, both 19, were camping with a group of about 30 others, all old school friends, on a Belgravia Road rural property in Molong, approximately 20 kilometres north-west of Orange when the accident happened.
"About 5am, they were asleep in their swags when they were inadvertently run over by a ute being driven by a 17-year-old male and a fellow camper," police said in a statement.
"He was moving his vehicle at the campsite," Canobolas Local Area Command duty officer, Peter Atkins, said.
The injured campers were rushed by ambulance to Orange Base Hospital in a critical condition.
The driver is helping police with their inquiries and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
