BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) The International Weightlifting Federation has fined Kazakhstan $500,000 after nine lifters were found to have committed doping offenses.
The IWF says no Kazakh weightlifters can compete until the fine is paid. The IWF gave a deadline of six months, and warned that if the fine isn't paid, the federation will be suspended for four years.
Six men and three women were caught doping this year, including Alexandra Aborneva, the gold medalist in the 75 kilogram-plus category at the 2013 Asian Championships. All were given two-year bans expiring mostly in mid-2015.
So far this year, Armenia and Ukraine are the only other countries with more than three positive doping results among its weightlifters.
