Camper have broken through the psychological 3000 nautical mile barrier on the race to Cape Town but remain in third as they shadow the front runners on the 6500 mile journey to South Africa.
Camper were 164 miles off the pace of new leader Telefonica. Puma were in second, 43 miles behind the leaders, with Groupama a distant fourth, 387 miles behind the leaders.
With the rounding mark of Fernando de Noronha now well behind them, Camper are now trying to avoid the light winds of the St Helena High and getting south into the more solid pressure of a developing cold front.
Skipper Chris Nicholson said that if they can work through the high, the front has the potential to catapult the boats to Cape Town.
"The tactics from here are to try to wait for an opportunity and not try to force something that isn't there," he said.
